Biography

Brian is currently a researcher at McMaster University in the department of Health, Aging and Society. He is set to begin a PhD in Political Science at the University of Guelph in the fall of 2015, conducting research on the intersection between e-democracy technology, political participation and social capital in First Nations communities. Brian’s past research has focused upon media coverage of Aboriginal Peoples and communities, examining the ways in which issues and events are framed by Canadian news outlets. Through his research, Brian aims to assist First Nations communities to further develop their governance capacity while advancing community-based participation. In working with First Nations communities, Brian also aims to interrogate his own status as a settler and gain a more complete understanding of the various political, social and cultural dynamics of indigenous-state relations in Canada.
